Test de pintura en arquero

Como descanso entre una miniatura y otra he decidido coger una poco importante para hacer unas pruebas. La elegida ha sido uno de los arqueros bretonianos que hace un tiempo me habían dado.

El objetivo era practicar con los colores apagados, como preparación para las miniaturas históricas que tengo esperando a que llegue su momento.

Resting between one miniature and another I decided to take one of little importance to make some test. The chosen one has been one of the bretonnian archers that a I got some time ago.

The objective was practising with dull colors, in preparation for the historical miniatures I have awaiting for their moment.

Algunos de los colores están reutilizados de uno de los escuderos bretonianos que se pueden ver en esta página. Aproveché para hacerles algún cambio menor, y los resultados que me han gustado se pueden ver en las tablas al final de esta entrada.

Pero en cualquier caso lo más importante, sin duda, es el color blanco. Ha quedado un poco sucio pero es la primera vez que logro algo que de verdad pueda pasar por blanco utilizando grises.

Aparte de eso, lo único que puedo decir es que la pintura metálica sigue sin gustarme lo más mínimo. Quizás sea cosa de la que tengo, que es acrílica de Vallejo, pero el resultado siempre es demasiado irregular y destaca con el resto de la pintura. En cualquier caso, apagar un poco el brillo con barniz mate parece que ha mejorado un poco el casco, dando un aspecto algo más homogeneo.

Some of these colors have been reused from one of the bretonnian squires which can be seen on this page. I took the chance to make some small changes to them, and the results I liked the most can be seen in the tables at the end of this post.

Anyway the most important thing is, no doubt, the white color. It ended looking a bit dirty but it's the first time I manage something that trully can pass as white using greys.

Apart from that, the only thing I can say is that I still don't like a bit metallic paints. It may be a thing of the paint I have, which is acrylic from Vallejo, but the result is always too irregular and doesn't go along the rest of the paint. Anyway, dulling it with matt varnish seems to have improved a bit the helmet, giving it a somewhat more even look.

Wood Elves Catchers

Despues de unos días esperando a ser terminados ya tengo listos a los receptores.

Quizás haya alguna cosa que necesitara más trabajo, como los números. Pero en el caso de estos el mayor problema son las superficies donde hay que dibujarlos, que no son planas de ninguna forma, y a no ser que los mires de frente, como por suerte ocurre en las fotos, se van a ver con ángulos en vez de formas suaves.

After a few days waiting to be finished I've already done the receivers.

There may be some things that needed more work, like the numbers. But in that case the biggest problem are the surfaces where they should be painted, which are not flat in any way, and unless you look at them from the front, as luckily happens on the photos, they will look like they had angles instead of smooth shapes.

La piel ha quedado sorprendentemente bien. Todo lo que hice fue concentrar las luces para remarcar las formas, pero al principio no estaba seguro de que fuese a funcionar, la diferencia entre los tonos más oscuros y los más claros quedaba algo rara, pero como ocurre muchas veces con esto, hasta que casi lo tienes terminado no sabes como va a quedar un color.

Por el resto, están pintados igual que los lineas. Bueno, cambié un poco la forma de dar las luces al pelo y creo que mejora, y también la forma de pintarles el trasero, porque en los lineas quedaba plano como una tabla.

The skin ended surprisingly well. All I did was gathering the highlights in small zones to mark the shapes, but initially I wasn't sure it would work, the difference between the darkest tones and the brighter ones looked weird, but as it usually happend with these things, until it is nearly finished you don't know how a color will end looking.

Otherwise, these miniatures are painted just like the linemen. Well, I changed a bit the way I give highlights to the hair and I think that improves it, and also the way I painted their asses, because on the linemen it looked flat as a board.

Wood Elves Linemen

Al fin he terminado con los siete jugadores de linea silvanos. Con este equipo decidí probar a hacer algunos cambios a la forma a la que suelo pintar, y aplicar alguna que otra cosa que he ido aprendiendo.

Lo más notable es que la diferencia entre las sombras más oscuras y las luces más claras es mucho mayor de lo habitual, dando mucho más contraste al resultado final. Y realmente ha quedado vistoso.

At last I've finished the seven Wood Elves linemen. With this team I wanted to try some changes to the way I usually paint, and apply some things I've learned.

The most noticeable is that the difference between the darkest shadows and the brightest lights is bigger than usual, giving much more contrast to the end result. And it really gives a nice look.

No aparecen en las fotos los lineas número 1 y 2, pero estos ya han aparecido antes en otra entrada, no me parecía que mereciera la pena repetirlos por tanto. Y por cierto, los números, como es costumbre, están hechos a mano alzada.

Me temo que se nota, porque no debe haber dos números con las mismas proporciones. Y el 6 me ha quedado raro, pero es que entre tanto número afilado es dificil que uno redondeado quede bien.

Estos números están copiados de la caja del equipo, donde pone una foto de la lámina de transferencias que venía en ella.

Ahora solo queda el resto del equipo por pintar: dos receptores, un lanzador, dos bailarines guerreros y Jordell Brisafresca, que no es parte del equipo, pero ya que lo tengo aprovecharé para pintarlo.

The photos of the linemen number 1 and 2 are missing, but these are appeared in another post, so I don't think it would be worth repeating them. And by the way, the numbers, as it's usual, are freehands.

I fear it can be noticed, as I don't think there are two numbers with the same proportions. And the 6 looks weird, but among so many sharp numbers it's hard that a roundy one would look good.

These numbers are copied from the team box, where there is a photo of the tranfers sheet which came on it.

Now I just have to get with the rest of the team: two receives, a thrower, two wardancers and Jordell Freshbreeze, who isn't part of the team, but as I have it I'll also paint it.

Escuadrón Szalamandra

Este Szalamandra, que es el segundo que pinto, se puede ver en la tienda AsturMiniaturas.

No he pintado muchas miniaturas grandes, de hecho esta es la tercera, y todas han sido TAGs de Infinity. Desgraciadamente, no tengo fotos del segundo que pinté, un O-Yoroi de YuJing.

This Szalamandra, which is the second I paint, was done for the local game store.

I haven't painted many big miniatures, actually this is the third, and all of them have been Infinity TAGs. Sadly, I don't have photos of the second I painted, a YuJing O-Yoroi.

Cuando cambias de tamaño se nota rápidamente la diferencia, es más dificil que usando los mismos colores consigas brillos similares a los de una miniatura menor. Y si para encima, como pasa con el Szalamandra, te topas con muchas superficies planas el trabajo para lograr degradados decentes aumenta.

Pero en cualquier caso el resultado final no ha sido malo, algunas fuentes de luz quedan feas, pero por el resto no ha quedado mal.

When you change sizes you notice quickly the difference, it's harder getting similar brights using the same colors as a smaller miniature. And if to make it worse, as it happend with the Szalamandra, you find yourself with lots of flat surfaces the work to achieve decent gradients increases.

Anyway the end result isn't bad, some light sources look ugly, but the rest doesn't look so bad.

Blood Bowl beastman

Hace tiempo, preparándome para pintar el equipo del caos, hice pruebas con esta miniatura para elegir un esquema general para los hombres bestia.

Desgraciadamente el proyecto de quedó aparcado, y ya no recuerdo los colores que usé, ni se me ocurrió anotarlos. Así que lo más probable es que para cuando decida ponerme de nuevo con el equipo del caos repinte este, o se lo cambie a alguien por uno sin pintar.

Además, tampoco me gusta como quedaron los colores, sobre todo ese pelo anaranjado. Y seguramente pruebe a pintar las piezas metálicas con la técnica de NMM.

Some time ago, getting ready to paing the chaos team, I made some tests with this miniatures to choose a general scheme for the beastmen.

Sadly the project ended being put aside, and I no longer remeber the colors I used, I didn't even think on writing them down. So it's probable that when I get back again with the chaos team I will repaint this one, or I'll change it for an unpainted one.

Anyway, I don't like how the colors ended, mostly that orangish hair. And probably I'll try to paint the metallic pieces with the NMM technique.

Piloto del Szalamandra

Sé que aun no he puesto imágenes del Szalamandra, o más bien no he puesto imágenes de ninguno de los dos Szalamandra que he pintado. No he podido por dos razones muy simples: quiero retocar el mio, pero esto tiene muy poca prioridad ahora mismo, y el que mejor me ha quedado de los dos lo pinté, como esta piloto, para la tienda local de miniaturas, y nunca me acuerdo de que tendría que sacarle unas fotos.

Pero bueno, al menos la piloto sí se puede ver.

I know I haven't posted images of the Szalamandra, of I could say better, I have not posted images of any of the two Szalamandra I have painted. I couldn't for two simple reasons: I want to retouch mine, but this is low priority at the moment, and the one that looks best was painted, just as this pilot, for the local miniature store, and I always forget I would have to take some photos of it.

But well, at least you can now see the pilot.

Me habían pedido que la ropa transparentara y se viera la piel, como en la foto oficial de la miniatura. Desgraciadamente con estos colores tan intensos no había forma de lograrlo, o al menos de que no acabase todo siendo una mancha de color carnoso dificil de interpretar.

Tampoco me gusta como ha quedado la cara, no tengo claro que ha salido mal, pero me ha quedado muy plana. Usando tintas es mucho más facil dar profundidad a la carne, pero no quiero usarlas en los Nómadas, creo que así se consiguen unos colores de aspecto brillante, más de anime se puede decir.

It had to have translucid clothes where the skin was visible, just like in the official photo. Sadly with these intense colors it was impossible, or at least I couldn't make it other thing than a mess of fleshy tones hard to interpret.

I don't like how the face ended looking, I'm not sure what went wrong, but it's too flat. Using inks it's easier to give depth to the flesh, but I don't want to use them on the Nomads, I think this way it's possible to get more shining colors, you could say more anime-like colors.

Late War British Machine-Gun Platoon

He aquí un pelotón de MG británico para finales de la segunda guerra mundial. Es lo primero que pinto en quince milímetros, y las primeras miniaturas históricas que pinto, aunque hacía años que me interesaba el Flames of War.

Lentamente, me estoy preparando una compañía de fusileros siguiendo el esquema del "Turning Tide". Por ahora tengo la caja de compañía (125 miniaturas en una sola caja), más un blister de morteros de 3", a la espera.

Eso es porque decidí que era mejor empezar por el grupo más pequeño, que era este. Despues de todo lo componen solo tres secciones, tal y como sigue:

Sección de cuartel general: equipo de mando de fusileros. Adicionalmente, puede llevar un equipo PIAT.

1x/2x Secciones MG: dos dotaciones de MG de Vickers por sección. Pueden llevarse una o dos secciones de MG, lo que significa llevar dos o cuatro MGs.

Here we have a British MG platoon for the late part of the second world war. It's the first I have painted on fifteen millimeters, and the first historical miniatures I paint, even if I've been interested on Flames of War for years.

Slowly, I'm preparing a rifle company following the diagram from "Turning Tide". Right now I have the company box (125 miniatures in a single box), along a 3" mortars blister, waiting for their moment.

That's because I decided it was better to start with the smaller group, this one. After all it's composed of just three sections, as it follows:

HQ section: command rifle team. Additionally, it can have a PIAT team.

1x/2x MG sections: two Vickers MG teams in each section. You can take one or two MG sections, which means two or four MGs.
