Wood Elves Linemen #1 & #2

En preparación para unas partida de Blood Bowl con los amigos he decidido empezar a pintar un equipo que llevaba unos doce años guardado y sin tocar.

También me ha servido para probar de nuevo la imprimación negra, ya que estaban imprimados de ese color.

Preparing myself for some Blood Bowl games I decided to start painting a team which has been untouched and stored around for twelve years.

It also has been useful for trying again black priming, as the miniatures were already primed on that color.

El esquema imita el oficial, el de los Athelorn Avengers, que es la caja de la que han salido. También, la verdad, fue una excusa para reusar uno de los esquemas con los que pinté uno de los escuderos Bretonianos que se pueden ver en el blog. Aunque lo cambié un poco, y le añadí algunos tonos más oscuros, para darle sombras más intensas, y otros más claros, para luces más brillantes.

El efecto final es que lo que debería ser amarillo ha quedado dorado, debería haberle añadido más luces al ocre en vez de más sombras. El verde en cambio no queda mal, solamente que para mi gusto queda apagado.

The scheme copies the official one, the Athelorn Avengers' one, which is the box they come from. Actually this was also a chance to reuse one of the schemes I used for one of the Bretonnian squires which can be seen on the blod. But I changed it a bit, adding some darker tones, to get more powerful shadows, and some brighter ones, to get more intense lights.

The final effect is that what should have been yellow is a golden color, I should have added more lights to the ochre instead of shadows. The green on the other hand doesn't look so bad, just that for my taste it's dull.

Los números están pintados a mano. No tengo las calcomanias que venian en la caja, pero como aparece una foto de estas en ella fue facil copiarlas.

Estaba pensando en añadirles en la tabarda las runas élficas que venían con los números, como en el esquema oficial. Pero no estoy seguro de que no vaya a ser más trabajo del que merezca la pena, aunque desde luego puede reducir la sensación de monotonía que darán dos grupos de cuatro y tres jugadores de linea idénticos.

Y por cierto, sí, voy a jugar con estas miniaturas. Les he dado bien de barniz, primero barniz brillante y despues mate, para quitar el brillo, aunque estos aun se notan en algunas partes. A pesar de esto, no sé como acabarán con el tiempo y las partidas.

The numbers are freehands. I don't have the transfers which came with the box, but as there is a photo of them on the box it was easy copying them.

I was thinking on adding the elf runes which came with the numbers to the tabard, just like the official scheem. But I'm not sure it won't be more work that it's worth, but it surely would reduce the monotony of having two groups of four and three identical linemen.

And by the way, yes, I'm going to play with these miniatures. I covered them well with varnish, first gloss varnish and then matt varnish, to kill the shines, but these are still visible in some parts. Still, I'm unsure about how they will end with time and games.

Reaktion Zond

Otra de las cuatro variantes del Zond. Esta vez un modelo de defensa, que aunque no posea ningún tipo de blindaje sirve como una especie de torreta movil, disparando una ráfaga entera de HMG incluso en el turno del enemigo.

Another of the four Zond versions. This time a defense model, which even if it lacks any kind of armor serves as a kind of mobile turret, shooting a full HMG burst even in the enemy turn.

La peana está hecha igual que las de los Intruders. Símplemente cambié el color y añadí las lineas amarillas con ayuda de un cartabón. La idea la saqué de las paradas de autobús de la ciudad, que tienen este mismo aspecto.

The base was made the same way as the Intruder's. I just changed the color and added the yellow lines with a set square. I took the idea from the bus stops on my city, which have this same look.

Stempler Zond

De las cuatro combinaciones que permite la caja de los remotos Zond este es el modelo de apoyo, equipado con armamento ligero y una serie de sensores para ayudar a las tropas.

From the four possible combinations which the Zond remotes box allows this is the support model, armed with light weapons and an array of sensors to help the troops.

La peana, que está hecha a mano, no quedó muy llamativa. Originalmente quería darle una textura, pero eso no funcionaba de ninguna manera. Contrastaba con el estilo de pintura de la miniatura y quedaba con un aspecto sucio. La solución fue facil, pintarla también con el mismo estilo simple y suave.

The base, which is handmade, didn't end being anything exciting. Originally I wanted to give it a texture, but that didn't work in any way. It contrasted with the painting style of the miniature and looked dirty. The solution was easy, painting it with the same simple and soft style.

Squires

Igual que los dos caballeros que hay en este blog, estos dos bretonianos son parte de un viejo ejército que un amigo tenía tirado por casa, y ahora yo tengo guardado para ir pintando, sobre todo para tener una memoria de los caballeros de las partidas de Pendragon.

Entre las miniaturas había cuatro figuras de metal que parecian las más interesantes de pintar, y como quería cambiar un poco de los proyectos con los que estaba cogí estos dos escuderos. Con los que además podría probar a usar una paleta de colores más apagados.

Just the same as the two knights on the blog, these two bretonnians are part of an old army which a friend had taking dust around home, and which now I have stored to paint as time goes, mainly to have a memory of the knights from the Pendragon games.

Among the miniatures there were four metal ones which seemed the most interesting ones to pain, and as I was looking to change a bit from other proyects I took these two squires. Which also I could use to try a new duller pallete.

Aquí usé un esquema facil y vistoso: colores primarios. Le hace parecer ir de gala, pero en general los bretonianos van vestidos como si acabaran de salir de un torneo.

Lo único notable es que aquí en vez de amarillo usé ocre. Que da un buen resultado al contrastar con los otros dos colores, en la paleta se veía claramente ocre, pero en la miniatura se ve claramente amarillo.

Y sí, la figura está muy inclinada, así es como me la dieron, y daba la impresión de que venía así de fábrica.

On this I used an easy and eye catching scheme: primary colors. It makes him look like he is prepared for a parade, but usually bretonnians are dressed as if they had just left the tourney.

And yes, the miniature is leaning forward, that how I received it, and it seemed to be that way.

Esta vez el esquema es mucho más simple, mientras que el anterior podría estar en una competición mostrando su habilidad con el arco, este da la sensación de estar a la espera en una cacería, así que se ganó unos colores más acordes con su pose.

El seto a sus pies es de Army Painter. La primera vez que los pruebo, y dan muy buen resultado.

This time the scheme is much simpler, meanwhile the previous one could be competing to show his skill with the bow, this one seems to be waiting on a hunt, so it got some colors in accord to his position.

The bush at his feet is from Army Painter. First time I try them, and the result is great.

Intruders (F. combi, f. francotirador y HMG)

Los tres intruder que se pueden ver aquí vinieron de dos blisters distintos. El básico, que tiene uno con fusil combi y otro con fusil de francotirador, y el de HMG.

Una cosa curiosa es que en el básico me vinieron dos brazos con fusil combi, pero claro, ambos son el brazo derecho, y el que lleva el rifle de francotirador es el brazo izquierdo. Si el brazo extra es la norma, es un buen gesto, pero me parece que resultaria un poco dificil usarlo para crear una conversión.

These three intruders which can be seen here came from two different blisters. The basic one, which includes one with combi rifle and other sniper rifle, and the HMG one.

A curiosity is that on the basic blister came two arms with combi rifle, but both arms are the right arm, while the sniper rifle arm is the left one. If the extra arm is the norm, it's a nice gesture, but I think it would be a bit hard using it for a conversion.

La pose del intruder con fusil combi puede parecer algo rara a primera vista, hasta que te fijas en que se está preparando para arrojar una granada. Diría que el problema es que no he puesto bien los brazos, pero la foto oficial también está en una pose rara, parece más bien que está provocando al enemigo.

The combi rifle intruder posture may look weird at first, until you notice he is preparing to throw a grenade. I would say the problem is that I didn't glue the arms on the right position, but on the official photo it also has a weird posture, it looks more like he is taunting the enemy.

Las peanas son preparadas por mi, usando masilla de Andrea. Son simples de hacer. Una vez has extendido y aplanado la masilla sobre la peana de plástico solo hay que hacer esto:

• Dividir la masilla en cuadrados iguales (piensa que dos de esos cuadrados han de cubrir la planta de un pie).
• Dar textura a los cuadrados con una piedra pequeña.
• Una vez esten bien secos, tras por lo menos un día, se rellenan las separaciones entre cuadrados para crear los adoquines.
• Se da textura con una piedra pequeña a la masilla recien añadida.
• Una vez ha secado todo bien, ya puedes taladrar y anclar la miniatura.

I made the bases, using Andrea putty. They are easy to make. Once you have extended and smoothed the putty over the plastic base you only need to do this:

• Crisscross the putty to create identical squares (think that these squares must cover a foot base).
• Give texture to the squares using a small stone.
• Once they are well dried, after at least a day, you fill the space betwwen the squares to create the cobblestone.
• Give texture to the new putty using a small stone.
• Once it has dried completely, you can drill it and anchor the miniature.

Como se puede ver, ahora el negro se ha vuelto mucho más azulado. Despues de pintar la interventora vi que ganaba mucho de esta forma.

De hecho, basándome en lo que vi con este color cambié la forma de la que pinto el naranja, añadiendo nuevos colores, que parece mejorar el resultado. La nueva progresión es: rojo sangre, rojo cadmio claro, naranja y naranja claro (todos de Vallejo), mientras que antes usaba solo rojo sangre y naranja claro.

As it can be seen, the black now is much more bluish. After painting the female interventor I saw it improved a lot this way.

Actually, after what I did learn with this color I changed the schema to paint the orange, adding new colors, which seems to improve the result. The new progression is: blood red, orange red, clear orange and light orange (all from Vallejo), while previously I only used blood red and light orange.

Die Morlock Gruppen

Este es el blister original de Morlocks, retirado por Corbus Belli no sé muy bien porque. Quizá por que parecen seguir una proporción algo diferente a otras miniaturas de la gama, quizá sea porque no alcanzaba el nivel de calidad que esperaban, o símplemente porque parece que han decidido rehacer las warbands en general.

En cualquier caso, tampoco creo que sean unas miniaturas que merezcan ser retiradas.

This is the original Morlock blister, discontinued by Corbus Belli for reasons unknown. Maybe because it seems to use proportions a bit differente from other miniatures of the range, maybe because it wasn't up to the quality level they wanted, o maybe it was just because they apparently decided to redo the warbands in general.

In any case, I don't think these are miniatures to discontinue.

De lo que sí que estoy seguro es de que me resultaron sorprendentemente fáciles de pintar, supongo que gracias a que el patrón que usé es casi por completo de un solo color.

Además, hay varias cosas que salieron, por fin, bien, o al menos decentemente bien. Sobre todo las fuentes de luz (aunque en la foto el verde destaca más que si tienes la miniatura en la mano), y el NMM en la espada de la morlock.

What I'm sure of is that they were surprisingly easy to paint, I suppose due to the pattern I used being mainly of a single color.

Also, there are some things that gave, at last, good results, or at least a decent one. Mainly the light sources (byt on the photo the green is more noticeable than when you have the miniature on your hand), and the NMM on the female morlock sword.

Como se puede ver, no llevan emblemas. Aparte de que no encontraba un sitio donde quedasen bien, son tropa penitenciaria, tropas irregulares, así que encaja que no lleven identificadores de un ejército del que realmente no forman parte.

As it can be seen, they aren't wearing any logo. I didn't find any place where they would look nice, but also they are penitentiary troops, irregular troops, so it did fit them not wearing ids of an army they do not really are part of.

Interventora

Aquí tenemos a mi primer hacker de Infinity. Como todas las unidades de este tipo, la idea es que está usando su dispositivo hacker (que se puede ver en el hombro izquierdo) por medio de un sistema de realidad aumentada.

El problema es que las láminas acrílicas con los hologramas que lo representan son imposibles de poner, o al menos de poner y que queden bien. Así que se ha quedado haciendo gestos al aire. Pero bueno, despues de todo eso es lo que van a ver los demás cuando el hacker trabaja.

Here we have my first Infinity hacker. Like all the units of this kind, it's supposed to be using her hacking device (which can be seen on the left shoulder) through an augmented reality system.

The problem is that the acrylic sheets with the holograms used to show this are impossible to put on place, or at least to put on place in a manner that they look nice. So she is making gestures to the air. But well, after all that's what the other people will see when the hacker is at work.

Una cosa que creo que se nota es que en esta miniatura probé nueva forma de pintar el negro/azul oscuro. En vez de ir gradualmente mezclando el negro con azul mágico (Game Color de Vallejo) hasta llegar a este color para las últimas luces, añadí azul oscuro y azul medio (ambos de Model Color) a la mezcla. De forma que voy haciendo mezclas hasta llegar de negro a azul oscuro, de este a azul medio y finalmente a azul mágico en areas cada vez menores.

A thing I think can be easily noted is that in this miniature I tried a new way of painting the black/dark blue color. Instead of slowly mixing the black with magic blue (Vallejo's Game Color) up to the last lights, given with that color, I added dark blue and medium blue (both from Model color) to the mix. So I keep making mixes until I get from black to dark blue, then to medium blue and finally to magic blue in areas that in each step become smaller.

El pelo fue iluminado hasta azul cielo, desde azul oscuro. Con lo que aunque combina con la ropa, logra destacar.

También puede notarse que aun tengo problemas con las fuentes de luz, pero eso es un tema complicado que necesitaría mucha más práctica.

The hair was painted up to sky blue, from dark blue. So it is noticeable, even when it mixes with the clothes.

It can also be seen that I still have problems with the light sources, but that is a complex topic that would need much more practice.
